FAQs

All Your Questions Answered

What is the format of the course?

Our courses are entirely online.

Our Virtual Classroom uses Zoom to deliver an interactive experience.

Our Online Course (£145, or free to Virtual Classroom attendess) is self-paced. All content, including modules and assessments, are accessible on our website whenever it suits your schedule. Access is granted for 90 days from the date of purchase (or, in the case of Virtual Classroom bookings, access is granted from the day the classroom is held).

How long is the course, and what is the time commitment?

Our Virtual Classroom is a 1-day course that starts at 9.30am and finishes at 5.00pm (BST/GMT).

Our Online Course content spans 2 days but the self-paced format allows you to determine the time commitment - so it can be shorter or longer depending on how you pace yourself. Participants can spread their learning across the content, tailoring it to their individual schedules. The course must be completed within 90 days of signing up.

Are your courses CPD certified?

In short, we are a CPD-accredited provider but our courses are not CPD-(externally) 'accredited'. However, you can self-claim CPD points, where 1 CPD point is equivalent to 1 hour of active learning. For example, you can claim 6 points for our 1-day course and 12 points for our 2-day course.

There is typically no requirement for external 'accreditation' of CPD points in NHS settings.

The long answer:

CPD refers to the ongoing process of learning and development that professionals engage in throughout their careers. CPD points (1 point per hour) are a measure of the time spent on professional development activities - this does not need external validation.

A CPD-'accredited' course usually refers to one that has been reviewed by an external organisation. The CPD accreditation process is mostly managed by unregulated private companies and there’s no central regulatory body overseeing it. These companies primarily assess whether courses (across all industries, not just medicine) have objectives and collect feedback, but they do not evaluate the educational quality or relevance for healthcare professionals. Additionally:

  • To the best of our knowledge, CPD accreditation is not mandated by the NHS nor ever mentioned as a requirement for specialty applications, making it less relevant for career progression. As highlighted above, the lack of regulation in the CPD process means it is often not required in most medical contexts.
  • The accreditation offers limited value in terms of quality assurance, as it focuses more on administrative checks (like objectives and feedback) rather than the depth of learning, skill development or teaching quality.

As such, our stance is that rather than participate in a process that offers minimal benefits and has the potential to mislead its value, we choose to be transparent on what CPD entails and focus on delivering high-quality, relevant content that genuinely enhances your skills and knowledge.

What topics are covered in the course?

The course covers a range of topics, including foundational teaching principles, clinical teaching excellence, building inclusive learning spaces and feedback and assessment mastery.

Are there live sessions or can I complete the course entirely on my own time?

Our Teach The Teacher Virtual Classroom is completely synchronous and delivered interactively via Zoom. In addition, attendees get free access to our Online Course.

Our Online Course has no live sessions. The course is designed for self-paced learning, allowing you to engage with the material at a time that best suits you. Successful completion will necessitate passing the quiz questions (there are no limits to reattempts) as well as submitting a short reflective piece on their learning.

How are assessments conducted?

There are no assessments in our Teach The Teacher Virtual Classroom.

The Online Course assessments include a short reflective essay (max 500 words) and quizzes (unlimited attempts allowed), and are required for completion of the course. The reflective essay allows you to articulate your insights, while the quizzes evaluates your understanding of the course material.

Is there ongoing access to course materials after completion?

Yes, participants have continued access to Online Course materials for up to 90 days of signing up.

Is there a community component to the course?

The Teach The Teacher Virtual Classroom will include a group of students, allowing you to network and learn from your peers.

While the Online Course itself is self-paced, we encourage participants to engage in our virtual community. Engage in discussions, share insights and build connections with fellow medical professionals from around the world using the discussion board on each lesson.

Will I receive a certificate upon completion of the course?

Yes. These can be used as evidence of training in teaching methods when applying for specialty training, such as medical (IMT) and surgical (CST) training applications. The certificate serves as a testament to your commitment to advancing medical education.

All attendees for our Virtual Classroom will receive a certificate following attendance.

Online eCourse participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of attendance to add to their portfolio once their essay is marked.

Are courses only for experienced doctors?

The courses are designed to cater to a diverse audience of those working in clinical settings, including both seasoned practitioners and recent graduates. The content is adaptable to various levels of experience.

I'm applying for specialty training - how many points will the courses give me?

We've summarised all the specialties that give points for Teach The Teacher courses (including IMT, CST, Radiology, Histopathology and others) in our handy guide.
